title: "Rescribe Desktop Tool v1.0.0 released"
date: 2022-03-22
categories: [software, tools, desktop tool, pdf]
---
Today we're very happy to announce the v1.0.0 release of the
desktop OCR tool *Rescribe*. It's free to download now from
[our Rescribe page](https://rescribe.xyz/rescribe),
and it will work on Mac OS X, Windows and Linux.

This release brings several major new features, a graphical
interface, support for reading PDFs directly, and an integrated
Google Book downloader chief among them. There are heaps of
smaller changes, too, like removing the limitation to name image
files in a particular way, adding the option to disable
automatic margin wiping, and adding the option to create the
searchable PDF using original size page images, for those who
value quality more than disk space in their PDFs.

This wouldn't have been possible without the generous support
of backers from [Kickstarter](https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2043301600/rescribe-a-high-quality-ocr-tool-for-historic-books),
who as well as backing us with their money also kindly offered
their time and energy to test early Beta versions of the software,
and gave great suggestions for changes and features to add.

If you have any problems with it, please do let us know at
[info@rescribe.xyz](mailto:info@rescribe.xyz) and we'll be happy
to help you out.

And a friendly reminder that if you have or are considering a
project where historical OCR could be useful, do reach out, we're
always happy to advise and help with such projects, whether large
or small!
